How Joy and Sorrow became Next-door Neighbours

Joy and Sorrow are Next-door Neighbours. This story is set to portray how the moment of joy could suddenly be replaced by sorrow and mourning if caution is not taken seriously.

DISCLAIMERS:

The story is a tragic one. You might have heard it somewhere before. It might be that it happened in your locality. It might also be that this is the first time you are going to hear it. But truth is that I'm only employing it to teach an important lesson.

There lived a married couple who had been in the marriage union for some good number of years without the cry of a baby in their home. They appeared to be infertile.

However, the couple tried all they could medically and prayerfully to make it happen but all their efforts proved abortive.

They finally decided to wait on God to accomplish his will. As it is to be expected, God finally visited them and blessed them with two bouncing baby boys (twins).

"Finally, a ray of light brighter than what we could ever imagine has been shone on us, we are most grateful to the Almighty God, the giver of children." the husband proclaimed in exhilaration.

Needless to say, the joy in that home within the few hours after the woman's delivery knew no bounds. However, the next development of events  brought a different atmosphere.

Out of joy and happiness, the husband mounted on his Suzuki motorcycle and rode away onto the road to go and break the good news to his in-laws. The joy in his heart didn't allow him to  remember that sorrow is never too far away from the scene where happiness is being celebrated. Thus,  he moved on the bike at a deadening speed on the highway.

Unfortunately, he ran into a helpless child who was trying to cross the road all alone. In an attempt to dodge the child, he ran into a heavy duty lorry that was coming behind him at its highest speed.

Alas! he was crushed to death at the spot. People began to troop around for identification and it was gathered that it's the man whose wife had just given birth to two bouncing baby boys.

Needless to say, the joy in that home which initially appeared to have no bounds was instantly brought to a definite bound. The wife cried and cried and refused to be consoled. A pall of mourning and sorrowing was cast over the community. That's how sorrow was given the opportunity to sneak in and cause havoc. It suddenly replaced the atmosphere of joy and happiness.

It's sad indeed! This goes a long way to portray and buttress the truth that Joy and Sorrow are Next-door Neighbours.

The bottomline is, whenever there's a cause to rejoice and celebrate, one should not throw all caution to the air because sorrow is always laying ambush waiting to strike.
